the familiar
reflection
standing
unpleased
in front,

begins
again
the lecture
i have often
heard,

“don’t
fight battles
without
an army
of sorts,

you can
no longer
win a heart
by just arrows
or words,

the world
has moved on
beyond
sentimental
poetic chimes,

what works today
is an accumulated
wealth
of a different
kind,

even a rose
at the florist
seeks
an expensive
vase,

the projectiles
of cupid
that emanate
from
your heart,

will eventually
boomerang to pierce
and bleed
your own
thin skin,

coffin those
emotions
that seek
another’s
response,

hide
somewhere deep
in your own
trenches
unseen,

until
you acquire
the worldly
accepted
arsenal,

required today
to win
that one
targeted
heart”.

  1. Your usual lovely nightly piece!
Why is it that poets never get the girls of their dreams, if girls love poetry? Or is it that guys who get girls don’t need poetry or have the time for it? I’m lightening up a somewhat more serious thought, I know, Vidur, sorry!

  2. Beautifully said.

“Poetry, whose material is language, is perhaps the most human and least worldly of the arts, the one in which the end product remains closest to the thought that inspired it.”
    Hannah Arendt
