Graveyards

Pic : Self

I sometimes
by the unpredictable
game of destiny,
run into people
from my past,

some sure
of their present,
but insecure and afraid
of it being upset
by their own past,

graveyards
are not always,
the peaceful
resting places
for those that are gone,

for some of us
to have a
spotless present,
park our darkest secrets
there in advance.

Taraazu (Hindi)

Taraazu mein bitha kar
bari bari sab ne,
apni fitrat ke mol se
mujhe tha tol liya,

main kya bolta
jab toone hi mujhe kuchh
kehne se tha rok diya,

bas ankhon se dekh
keh ke toone mujhe
wahan tha chhor diya,

nilami meri thi ya unki
yeh to tu hi jaane Maula,
maine to uss mele mein
duniya ka khel dekh liya.

pennies

Pic : Internet

put all your pennies
in your pocket,

and count them often
to know they’ve grown,

walk the happy step
with head held high,

and hear the jingle
of their clinking song,

enjoy the feeling
of this cold comfort,

for they define you
in the world you live,

and when your steps
are close to their end,

you’ll know which songs
really mattered the most.

cuppa tea

Pic: Pinterest (edited)

you and i
too
were strangers
once,

strange how
separates meet
from different
worlds,

mix
in a pot
to blend
as one,

nothing
in common
but a
common cause,

invisible identities
to the
visions
of a third,

but creating
a fusion
that makes
a soulful cup.

sold on discount
i often wonder
my worth,

did my
intrinsic
value fall,

or was there
just an
inherent need,

to clear out
my irrelevance
on the shelf,

do i now live below
my creator’s value
of me,

or just pretend
somehow
to be worthy

of the price,
that you paid
to own,

my this
assumed
discounted worth.

p r i o r i t i e s

you own
your skies,

embellish
it by choice,

your priorities
reflected,

in the pieces
that shine,

i disappear
slowly,

much like
the moon,

bit by bit
night by night,

till your sky
is clear,

of any trace
of mine,

the moon
by habit,

still does
return,

but i seek
a sky,

where i am
the sun.
